TAKE ME HOME

(A.Qunta/C.Thompson)

In an empty bed
Staring at the ceiling
You need someone to love
And show you understanding
Here we are, broken hearted
Looking for a way around it
In the middle of a broken dream

Just open your eyes
And never look back
You know happiness
Is something to be aiming at
Here we are, broken hearted
Looking for a way around it
In the middle of a broken dream

(Chorus)
Take me home
Home to your heart
Home to your body
Take me in your arms
And cover me up
Take me home
We're never meant to be alone
How can I make you see
Take a chance on me

When there's no way out
And nobody to turn to
All you need
Is someone to the rescue
Here we are broken hearted
Searching for a way around it
In the middle of a broken dream

(Repeat chorus)

I got the original idea for "Take Me Home" from something on Prince’s Purple Rain album, but it didn’t sound like that in the end. No point doing something the same anyway. I finished the backing track and played it for Chris, and he came up with the melody (which was originally a little Bowie-ish I recall), and we wrote the lyrics together. We mixed the demo the same day we mixed the You’re The Voice demo, and funnily enough those are the two songs from the AQ/CT catalogue that have been covered most by other artists. Take Me Home has been done by, among others, John Waite (Missing You), Don Airey (Rainbow/Deep Purple) with Cozy Powell and Chris, and Jim Capaldi (drummer/vocalist for Traffic with Steve Winwood, songwriter for Santana, Eagles etc). Jim added a bridge for his version, which I really liked and would have used, but my version was finished before I heard his.
